Each week, I check in with myself and review what I'm working on, what's exciting me, what I'm struggling with, and what I'm looking forward to in the next week.
I share my Sunday check-ins with the hope that you might do the same. If you do, please let me know! Leave a comment here, or if you'd rather, you can always email me at email@example.com.
This Week's Projects
Travel - The Vacation Dream Book
Guess what! I finally completed the Vacation Dream Book Checklist that I'm sharing with everyone who signs up for my newsletter. It just didn't feel complete until I had some decent photos of an actual Vacation Dream Book, and I was finally able to take some photos worth sharing. I'm so excited about how this is coming together, and I can't wait to share more on the blog and on Instagram.
What's working: I'm continuing to focus on doing the very next step that needs to be done, to try not to get overwhelmed by the entire project. I tend to spend a lot of time trying to come up with the perfect plan, thinking that will help me finally feel in control of what I'm doing and how I spend my time. But ultimately, nothing beats just sitting down, putting on some music, setting a timer, and doing the very next step.
Travel - Planning my trip to Scotland
I get a lot of anxiety over travel planning. That's why I do the Vacation Dream Book, and other creative things to make it fun and less stressful. They all help tremendously, but I'm still learning where my vulnerable points are and how to strengthen myself. Early this week I was looking for some clothes for my trip. I'm so not prepared for spending a lot of time outdoors in rainy, chilly, unpredictable weather. I found myself on Amazon and Pinterest for hours, trying to find the perfect set of clothes, worried about how much I could spend and whether I was getting the right things. It also unexpectedly brought up a lot of insecurities about my appearance and body. It was rough!
What I'm struggling with: I still have a lot of issues with money and insecurity about my appearance that worm their way into travel planning. I wonder if this comes up for other people, or are there other issues that make it stressful for you?
My First Novel
While this was kind of on the back-burner this week, I did reach out to someone I'm starting to get to know at work who wants help getting her children's book completed and published. We're going to meet regularly for encouragement, brainstorming, and help. I think this is the first time since college that I've had this kind of support with someone I can meet face-to-face. And I hate to say how long that's been. It's exciting to be able to help her with what I've learned, and to have someone who can help me stay engaged and excited about writing.
Challenges: This is a big win for me this week, not least of all because I overcame my natural tendency to keep to myself, to not reach out for fear of being pushy or annoying.
It's Your Turn!
My challenge to you, dear reader, is to break out of your comfort zone this week. Do something you're scared of but you know will be worthwhile and tell me all about it!
